Is Sleeping in Make Up Really So Bad?

We can practically hear you out there. “Please say no, please say no.” Believe us, we wish we wouldn’t have seen the results of this research either. Some nights we’re lucky we even make it to the bed before completely crashing, and it feels like adding in those extra skin care steps could very well be putting us at risk of spending the night sleeping on the bathroom floor.

However, if we’re willing to invest in quality skin care products and develop skin care routines to keep ourselves looking fresh, we shouldn’t be so willing to skip an important step.

The less you wash that make-up off, the more you’ll end up needing it

Leaving your make-up on overnight basically does all of the things to your skin that you assumed it would.

Your base, whether it’s a thick foundation, a BB cream, or even a light tinted moisturizer, will clog your pores and cause skin irritations like redness and acne. An oil-based primer under your make-up may make that make-up more effective, but it also makes those negative effects worse. Furthermore, having primer or foundation on your skin all night keeps your skin from renewing itself, which causes dullness, not to mention blackheads.

If you’re thinking you’re in the clear because you only wear eyeliner and mascara, well, your complexion might be in the clear, but you’re putting yourself at risk of eye irritations and even infections.

Forget about make-up altogether for a second. You know all those pollutants and free radicals flying around in the air and landing on your exposed skin? If you don’t wash your face before bed, you’re giving those harmful pollutants an extra eight hours to break down the collagen in your skin. And broken-down collagen means fine lines, wrinkles, and a looser complexion.

One step is all it takes

If you want to get into a full night-time skin care routine involving night creams and serums, then we applaud you. But at the very least, we’re asking you to please wash your face before bed. The Gold Elements Intensive Multi-Task Facial Cleanser is formulated to gently cleanse your skin and encourage your face to renew and refresh itself all night long.
